Microsoft® WORD - Fitting a document onto one page
The way that documents are presented to your clients and customers is a reflection of the professionalism of your organisation.
Have you ever been frustrated by document that you would like to fit on one page, but just a couple of lines go over onto a new one? There are a couple of ways you can deal with that.
It helps you to see what is happening to your document more clearly if you view them in Print Layout View. To do this either click on the Print Layout View icon at the bottom left of your screen or go to the View menu on the toolbar at the top of the screen and select Print Layout.
To change the way that your document fits on the page:
First, check that you do not have any unnecessary carriage returns at the end of your document that have simply made the document longer than it needs to be. If that is not the case then:
1. Click on the File button on the top left hand side of your menu bar, expand the menu and select Page Setup.
2. Reduce the all margin settings a little and click on OK.
If your document now fits on a single page, you've solved the problem! If it is almost there, but not completely on one page, you can either reduce the margins a little more or you can reduce the font size of your document content.
To reduce the font size of all of your text:
1. Go to the start of your document (hold down the Ctrl key and press the Home key on your keyboard).
2. Hold down the Ctrl key and the Shift key at the same time and press the End key. All of your text will now be shown with a black background.
3. While the black background is showing, go to the Font Size icon on your toolbar and select a smaller font size. Your text will then reduce to the font size you have selected.
Still got a problem? Don't forget the Help menu on your toolbar!
