ALIQUANTUM Press Release
Mayor wants to break down 'barriers' to business women in Oldham
Councillor Bernard Judge has declared his wish to see Oldham women prosper in business after being bowled over by one particular female entrepreneur who is doing her bit to pave the way for women in business.
The Mayor met up with women's networking organisation, ALIQUANTUM, at the Greater Manchester Business Event, Queen Elizabeth Hall, a few weeks ago and spoke to Laura Swetman, owner of the organisation, about some of the issues facing women in business.
The Mayor commented that despite enlightened thinking and many improvements in equality legislation, there are still barriers to women entering the world of business and this not only affects individuals but society in general.
He said: "I regularly see situations where much finance and resources have been invested in women's education and training but much of this investment is being wasted because issues like childcare and carer commitments stand in the way of women entering work or business. However, there are many ways to overcome these barriers and organisations such as ALIQUANTUM can help women do this"
Since its inception in 2006 ALIQUANTUM, has allowed North West businesswomen from a variety of disciplines to come together and form strategic alliances, providing an opportunity to develop business and create new contacts. Founder, Laura Swetman says the uniqueness of ALIQUANTUM is that it understands the demands placed on women who want to be successful both professionally and personally and that this level of understanding is echoed by the rest of its members to create a tranquil but very business-focussed environment at all of their meetings.
Laura says: "I was delighted to meet Councillor Bernard Judge, and see his support for Oldham businesswomen. It was very clear to me that he is as passionate about the development of a successful business and economic environment in Oldham as I am about women in business. I look forward to both flourishing "
