ALIQUANTUM Speaker Profile
Ren Withnell, Techsolus

Ren Withnell spent a number of years in the corporate environment providing multi-faceted IT support to meet the diverse needs of differing departments; in fact everything from the everyday user’s perspective of “it doesn’t work”, the complex and technical requirements of design and engineering specialists to the design, build and maintenance of a company website and intranet.
During his career he learnt an important lesson; no matter how much you think you know about computers and IT, there’s still an awful lot to learn. The key is not knowing everything, but knowing where to find the answers, then understanding them and implementing them. Being a simple guy he’s always preferred the simplest solutions.
Staff in large companies with IT departments can just make a call when the computer starts to do strange things, but Ren noticed how many friends and ex-colleagues with their own businesses had no-one to call for help. A cunning plan started to form ... … … and that’s how TechSolus was born. The company has been growing slowly and steadily for almost 3 years now and Ren has built a wide and varied customer base that includes consultants, students, engineering companies and website designers.
Ren lives and works in Horwich, near Bolton. This means he has easy access to Manchester and the South Lancashire area. For transport Ren quite often rides a motorcycle to see customers, telling people it’s for environmental reasons, but really it’s so he doesn’t need to wear a suit! He also provides remote support where possible, but he believes not everything can be fixed from afar and there’s nothing like meeting a client face-to-face.
Ren speaks plain English but will speak in ‘technoblurb’ if you ask him to. Think of him as the geek you could actually have a conversation with.
